COMMUNITY CENTRE

Looking out
for our community

St Sebastian's Community Centre is a community resource managed by a small group of volunteers, which provides a range of opportunities and resources for local people. Opened in 1981 as a Day Care Centre for older people, run by Salford Social Services Department, this service was withdrawn in March 2000. While retaining subsidised lunches and other services, the new management set out to extend its services to all ages and establish an attractive modern facility which could readily respond to changing local need and become a real 'centre' for the community.

It aims to:

promote physical and mental well-being;

foster the development of skills and interests;

encourage people of all ages, where practicable, to take responsibility, and to use their skills and resources constructively to revitalise their community and enrich their own lives;

promote community involvement, good neighbourliness, and to help the integration of those who find (or consider) themselves marginalised;

promote equality of opportunity and respect for all people and races;

be a resource for other community providers and work in partnership wherever practicable;

provide a familiar, hospitable and stable retreat for those who might find themselves uprooted and troubled by local redevelopment or other occurrence.
